Taming My Own Insulin Beast

My life’s passion is helping women understand their cravings and tame the insulin beast. I’ve been a naturopathic doctor for 22 years. I’ve written two books. I’ve coached hundreds of women through this exact thing.

What I don’t usually talk about is why.

It all started with a bag of Halloween candy

I was a young girl with PCOS — though of course, I didn’t know that’s what it was yet. What I knew was that I’d go to bed with a bag of Halloween candy and wake up in a blanket of wrappers. Not because I lacked willpower. Because something in me was driving it.

Years later, I grew into a young mother in postpartum. Same pattern. Bed with the candy, wake up in the wrappers — except now it came with guilt I didn’t have the bandwidth for.

And then I aged into a perimenopausal, menopausal woman — and for the first time, I found myself wanting to go to bed with that bag of candy and not wanting to wake up buried in wrappers. Something had shifted. Not my willpower. My understanding.

Why I became a naturopathic doctor

Here’s the part I’ve never fully told you.

Long before any of that menopause chapter, I was diagnosed with IBS. I went through conventional medicine looking for help and got — essentially — none. No real answers, no real relief, just a label and a shrug.

So I did something drastic. Instead of going to medical school, I made a U-turn and went to naturopathic college instead. Not because I had some grand plan to become a naturopathic doctor. Because I wanted to heal my own gut, and nobody else was going to figure it out for me.

Fast-forward more than 20 years, and I finally learned the truth: what I’d been diagnosed with as IBS was actually SIBO — small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. And the bag of candies, the lattes, the toast — the exact things I reached for during every one of those chapters — weren’t just cravings. They were feeding the SIBO. I was, quite literally, feeding the thing that was making me sick, every single time I reached for relief.

That’s the loop. Cravings feed the beast. The beast drives the cravings. Around and around, for over two decades, before I understood what was actually happening in my own body.

What I did with what I learned

In the midst of all of this — the PCOS, the postpartum years, the perimenopause, the slow unraveling of my own misdiagnosis — I wanted to show other people what I was learning. I wrote books. I lectured. I made videos. Not because I had it all figured out from the start, but because I was learning it in real time, on myself, and couldn’t keep it to myself.

My goal now is simple: help women like me overcome and tame the insulin beast — not with more willpower, but with the actual understanding I spent 20 years piecing together the hard way.

If this is your story too

If you’ve ever gone to bed with the candy and woken up in the wrappers — at any age, any chapter — you’re not broken and you’re not lacking discipline. There’s almost always a “why” underneath it, the same way there was for me.

That’s exactly why I made this guide on INSULIN https://www.doctornadia.com/insulin and what I built the Recovery Plan: 7-Day Reset to address.
